About the Petal Object

The first petal object works were created in 2020, and since then the Petal Object has become one of Motoko Saigo's most iconic and representative works.
It was during confinement that Motoko wanted to return to pottery made entirely by hand and freed from the famous potter's wheel. She found it interesting and nostalgic to feel the texture in her hands and between her fingers as she grabbed a handful of clay and worked with it. She managed to bring a ball of clay to life when she created an object reminiscent of a set of petals. The petals, which were taut during their formation, come to life during the drying process.

All the pieces are handmade, they are unique pieces and the subtle nuances of this work are fascinating.

Motoko SAIGO

Motoko studied design in Japan.
Upon her arrival in France, she began making pottery in the workshop of the Japanese artist Yoshimi FUTAMURA.
She then continued her work independently in her small workshop under the roofs of Paris.
Shaped both on the wheel and by hand, all of its pieces are unique. She plays with proportions and textures with enamels that she makes herself.

Its objective is to make pieces that bring aesthetic pleasure to enrich an interior decoration, but also objects which, although surprisingly light in the hand, are also designed for everyday use.
