Petite coupelle Hyōtan
Small gourd-shaped cup, by Fūta Noguchi, ceramic artist based in Okayama, Japan.
Hyōtan (瓢箪) means calabash in Japanese.
The graphic representation of the Hyōtan has a very strong symbolism in Japan and the rest of Asia: it is said to be a symbol of luck and prosperity for descendants. This is why you will find many silhouettes of Hyōtan as a lucky motif.
This bowl can be used at the table to present salt and condiments, but it can also be used to put rings or small accessories.
Handmade, color and finish may vary slightly and contribute to the unique character of each piece.
