Discover Ōryōki: The Art of Simplicity

Ōryōki応量器) designates in Japanese the set of nested bowls and other utensils for the personal use of Zen Buddhist monks. This is a set for different sized dishes.

A Journey to the Essential

Ōryōki is much more than just a set of bowls. It is a journey towards the essential, an experience that transcends everyday life. Imagine yourself sitting in a Zen temple, surrounded by serenity, ready to enjoy a meal prepared with love and devotion. Ōryōki bowls are the perfect companions for this inner journey.

The Philosophy of 'Just Enough'

The word Ōryōki literally means “that which contains just enough”. It is an invitation to simplicity, to full awareness of each bite. Each bowl has its place, each gesture is precise. Zen monks used these bowls for their prescribed meals, but today we can all draw inspiration from their wisdom.

The collection of special artworks

L'Ōryōki, it is not just about material objects. It is a deep connection to and experience of Japanese tradition and beauty. Zelkova bowls are a real pleasure to hold, with their solid grain and deep color. Once stored, they fit together harmoniously, like pieces of a sacred puzzle. They have a beautiful presence just by being there.

Traditional Craftsmanship

Yamanaka lacquer objects, including Ōryōki, are a treasure of Japanese craftsmanship. Crafted with care, coated with a thin layer of Urushi lacquer, they embody beauty and durability. Each piece tells a story, each scratch is a mark of authenticity.
